The Republic of Maldives comprises about 1192 coral islands set among 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean. An internet search for "Maldives" will inevitably turn up raving reviews of its incredible natural beauty, marine wonders and island havens - all of which are true! Italian traveller George Corbin is often credited with bringing the first group of tourists to the beautiful islands of the Maldives in 1972. With the opening of the first resort in late 1972, the tourism industry has soared. Today, 35 years on, 88 island resorts offer memorable experiences from beyond-star luxury to barefoot chic. Rihiveli Rihiveli is 47 kilometres from Male International Airport, a distance easily covered by a one-hour speedboat ride. For security reasons, we do not provide transfers at night. So do try to book a flight that touches down before 5.00pm if you want to check into the resort on the same day. Rihiveli time is 1.5 hours ahead of Male's, or GMT +6.5h.
