HistoryThe name Rihiveli is a combination of two local words. 'Rih' means shiny and silver, while 'veli' refers to the sand and beach. As the tide goes down, the sand banks appear to rise from the sea. Reflecting the changing light of day, the powdery white sand takes on a silvery glow as it shimmers in the sun's rays – and thus, the name Rihiveli. Among its devotees, Rihiveli has come to symbolise pleasure, rejuvenation and sheer joy in one of the most desirable places in the world. Rihiveli's 'No News, No Shoes' policy is a legacy of resort founder Pitt Pietersoone. He loves nature with a passion, and envisioned a retreat where guests can relax in an environment unsullied by modern-day stresses. Stripped of external trappings and superficiality, guests are invited to go back to the basics – to the core of communal living. Twenty-five years on, Pitt knows that his Robinson Crusoe-style resort has touched many hearts – because up to half are returning guests eager to tune out, stretch out and revisit a time when life was much simpler. Now, isn't this exactly what you should be doing too? |
